Delete Your Account — Vacationist

Vacationist is developed by Gary Lude, based in Switzerland — the same developer name shown on the Vacationist listing in the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. This page explains how to permanently delete your Vacationist account and what happens to your data when you do.

How to request deletion

1. In the app

Open Vacationist, go to the Profile tab, tap Delete Account, and confirm. Your account is deleted immediately.

2. In your browser — no app install required

Go to web.vacationist.app, sign in with the same Google account or magic-link email you use in the app, then go to Profile → Delete Account and confirm. This works even if you never installed, or have already uninstalled, the mobile app.

3. By email

If you can't sign in (lost access to your email, or any other issue), email [email protected] from the address associated with your account, with the subject line "Account deletion". We will verify your request and delete your account within 30 days.

      Guest accounts (created by joining a trip via an invite link, without an
      email address) cannot use the in-app or web self-service flow above — request deletion by
      email instead, or upgrade to a full account first and then delete it yourself.
    

What is permanently deleted

Your account and sign-in identity (Google Sign-In / magic-link email)
Your name, email address, and avatar image
Your preferred locale and timezone
Push notification tokens registered to your devices
Travel documents you entered, including encrypted fields (document number, date of birth, full legal name, notes)
Your votes and in-app notifications
Your membership in every trip

What is kept, and why

Vacationist is a collaborative app — trips, activities, expenses, and shopping lists are shared with other people. Deleting your account does not delete content that other trip members still depend on:

Trips, activities, accommodations, expenses and expense splits, uploaded expense receipts and transfer tickets (flights and public transport), shopping lists, notes, and trip chat messages you created remain visible to the other members of trips you shared
This content is re-attributed to a generic "Deleted User" — it is no longer linked to your name, email, or account in any way
If you were the sole member of a trip, that trip is deleted along with your account instead of being kept

We do this so that other travelers' shared plans and expense settlements aren't broken by one person leaving.

Retention periods

Account and personal data (listed above) are deleted immediately when you confirm deletion in the app or on the web; email requests are processed within 30 days
Database backups containing your data roll off within 30 days of deletion
Our first-party analytics log (page visits and sign-up events, which never stores an IP address or any account identifier) is retained for 14 months regardless of account deletion, since it cannot be traced back to your account
We do not retain any of your personal data for regulatory, security, or fraud-prevention purposes beyond what's described above
